Kings School Six Formers Step into 'The Land of Oz' for The Children's Foundation

Kind-hearted six formers from Kings School, Tynemouth dressed up as the legendary Mizard of Oz characters last month, to raise money for The Children's Foundation.

The Kings School prefects volunteered to dress as dorothy, The Lion, The Tinman and The Scarecrow to carry out collections at the school, after performances by fellow students of the 1940's cult classic The Wizard of Oz. Attendees at all four shows, held from Saturday 20th March through to Tuesday 23rd March, dug deep into their pockets and raised over £800 for the charity's Happy, Healthy, Safe appeal. The appeal was launched earlier this year to imporve the health and wellbeing of North East children in three key areas; mental health, disability and child safety.

David Littlefield, Head-teacher of Kings Junior School who directed the senior's musical and organised the collections said:

"Our school has a long history of supporting a variety of charities and when we decided to stage The Wizard of Oz, it was appropriate to go along The Yellow Brick Road and collect for The Children's Foundation, which does so much for children here in the North East. We had a lot of fun too!"

Rachel Atkinson, our Community Fundraiser added:

"We are delighted to benefit from all four performances of King's Scholl's Wizard of Oz and it was really good of the students to get into the spirit of things and don the costumes to do the collections. They always go down well with the kids...and the adults too!"
